On April 14, 1942, Ava M. Beard of Butler, Missouri, patented a power take-off drive for cylindrical ground pulverizers. Her design provided a positive, tractor-driven mechanism with adjustable height control, giving simpler construction, sturdier operation, and precise regulation of soil-cutting depth.
