On June 7, 1949, Ava J. Johnson of Oakland, California, an assignor to Shell Development Company, patented a novel method for carrying out endothermic catalytic reactions. Her process balanced endothermic and exothermic steps inside a multi-zone reactor, extending catalyst life and boosting yields.

Date of Application: 22 August 1944
