On November 18, 1909, Anna, Countess von Holnstein aus Bayern, of Bavaria and temporarily residing at the Ritz Hotel in London, patented an improved hat pin. Her design featured two or more prongs with upward-bent points and a sliding distance piece that could move along the pin’s length, allowing secure attachment without protruding outside the hat.
