A New Golf Scorer.

On June 27, 1896, Gertrude Willoughby of Fulmer Hall, Slough, received a patent for an ingenious mechanical golf scorer designed to track strokes at each hole and tally the total score. Her device used a system of rotating discs and toothed rings — each advanced by a lever — to record scores hole by hole while updating the cumulative total.
