Device for Moistening Envelopes and the Like.

On July 27, 1937, Jozefa Olympia Armfelt of Kulla, Sweden, patented a device for moistening envelopes and other gummed surfaces. The device used a water-filled container with a wick in a bent or angled tube that automatically delivered just the right amount of moisture, preventing spills or over-wetting while remaining simple and easy to manufacture.
