Safety-Parachute for Aviators.

On May 22, 1917, Kaja P. Togstad of Maddock, North Dakota, was awarded a patent for a wearable safety parachute for aviators that would automatically open if the pilot fell from the aircraft. Her device used a spring-loaded support attached to a belt to deploy the parachute and allow a safe landing.
