On February 1, 1923, Marguerite de Labrouhe de Laborderie and Odette de Labrouhe de Laborderie of Bordeaux patented a new decorative leather material created by cutting designs directly into the leather so the motif itself emerged from the cutwork. Their technique produced lightweight, lace-like panels suitable for furniture, drapery, clothing, and leather goods, combining artistic detail with the durability of solid leather.
