On September 5, 1946, Solveig Aida Bierregaard of Argentina patented an orthopedic insole designed to correct flat feet by restoring the foot’s natural arches. Shaped with opposing inclined planes that rotated the foot into anatomical alignment, it offered support at the natural weight-bearing points without creating pressure or discomfort.
