Her system separated classified ads into a smaller supplement distributed only to readers who requested it, using matching coupons to link the main paper and the supplement for accurate distribution and accounting.

On September 4, 1897, Cora Genevieve Mann of Brooklyn, New York, patented a commode designed to attach directly to any bedstead. Its folding, height-adjustable seat let patients move from bed to commode without exposure, while the entire unit could be compactly folded when not in use.

On December 31, 1946, Cordelia E. O. Larkin of St. Petersburg, Florida, patented a shampoo cape designed to keep water off the wearer’s face. Her design used an elastic band that fit around the head, forming a small trough to catch and drain water to the back during washing.
